Racing for Cancer held its 2nd annual Battle for Cancer event November 9th,2024 out of Pompano Beach ,FL. Teamed up with Big Dog Tackle and its Fishing for Humanity charity once again, approximately 38 entries participated in this 1-day fishing tournament from Pompano Beach and West Palm Beach marina areas. A Captain’s party was held at nearby Galuppi’s on November 7th, 2024. Numerous auction items as well as events shirts and items were for sale all to raise additional money for the cause. While we had fewer entries than 2023 (due to poor weather conditions expected November 9th), we expect that the event will still raise over ~$30,000. We want to thank all the sponsors (many who can see on the scroll at the bottom of this page), the team at Big Dog Tackle, and all the people who entered the tournament. We can’t wait for the 3rd annual to be held in late 2025.

Hunter-Reay’s charity held its 7th exclusive Racing School and Golf outing event December 6th -8th , 2022

Ryan & Beccy Hunter-Reay, with their charity, Racing for Cancer, successfully completed the 7th annual Race to Beat Cancer at Sebring International Raceway December 6th – 8th , 2022. The one-of-a-kind event included a two-day exclusive racing school partnered with the Lucas Oil School of Racing held in Sebring, FL. Twenty-four (24) participants took to the track for an exciting two days. The Amateur and Advanced classes were SOLD OUT, and the advanced school saw many returning enthusiasts to try and master this new track. “This is one of the highlights of the year for me,” said Ryan Hunter-Reay. “Getting to do what you love, sharing it with fans, all while raising money to help beat cancer. Doesn’t get much better!”

Most participants stayed at The Seven Hotel at Sebring raceway and enjoyed exclusive receptions and dinners with hosts, Ryan and Beccy Hunter-Reay along with terrific hosts Colleen and Paul Hus one evening and Jon Hage the second evening. What remarkable dinners with both great hosts. All net proceeds of the event will directly benefit Racing for Cancer and its chosen initiatives in the global fight against cancer.

If interested in attending the 2024 school (hopefully), contact Tom Vossman at tom@racingforcancer.org immediately. It likely will sell out again as we endeavor to return to Laguna Seca in Monterey, CA.

In November 2019, Ryan Hunter-Reay and his Racing for Cancer charity presented Gilda’s Club with a grant for $10,000 for their children’s program.

Hunter-Reay was connected to Gilda’s Club by former board member and chair, Sara Howley Callari, who held a special birthday fundraiser that was matched by Racing for Cancer to support Gilda’s. The gift will help fund the support groups offered to children impacted by cancer, as well as help promote parenting skills to parents through the cancer experience.

Hunter–Reay is the most successful American driver currently competing in the Verizon IndyCar Series and is a former Indy 500 Champion and Indy Car Series Champion. He formed Racing for
Cancer in 2010 to unite motorsports fans around the world to help those afflicted with cancer. Their focus is to promote early detection and prevention initiatives, as well as efforts to help raise
awareness and support of fighting childhood cancer.

Thank you to Ryan, Beccy, Racing for Cancer, and Sara for their support!

Our 3rd annual Race to Beat Cancer event this year was held at Palm Beach International Raceway February 22-23, 2018. Participants joined our 2-day amateur school or 2-day advanced school. Lucas Oil School of Racing, its instructors, and its new fleet of open wheel cars were on hand featuring Ryan Hunter-Reay and James Hinchcliffe as guest instructors. Ryan and James joined the class on-track, gave advice on improving speeds, reviewed telemetry with participants, and even gave “hot laps” in the official Indy500 pace car Ryan won in 2014. Please click here to see how much fun our participants had over the two days.

Guests enjoyed dinner at Ryan Hunter-Reay’s home one evening and dinner at famous Mar-a- Lago resort one evening. This event makes for a great early Christmas present, a great event to make memories for father-son, father- daughter, or mother-daughter entrants, and a great event to offer for employee award programs and customer trips.

We are already planning the 2018/19 school and will likely head back West to one of two iconic tracks! Schools will likely offer limited availability to maximize track time (only 12-14 amateur and 12-14 advanced slots available). The donation includes racing school fees, fire suit and helmet use, limited insurance, and all meals from a welcome reception the night prior to the school through conclusion, including exclusive dinners and reception with IndyCar hosts. Plan now and come enjoy a once-in- a-lifetime event with the fastest drivers in the world. To secure your 2018/19 spot in this limited availability fundraising event, contact Tom at tom@racingforcancer.org or 636-541- 2271 today! We have sponsorships available as well for companies wishing to support the global fight against cancer! #beatcancer

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. / November 1, 2017 / GENERAL AVIATION NEWS –

Sheltair, one of the nation’s leading privately-owned aviation development companies, is partnered with a four-wheeled friend for a good cause: Racing for Cancer, which was formed to unite motorsports fans around the world to help those afflicted with cancer and to promote early detection and prevention initiatives that support the global fight against cancer. On October 31, all 17 Sheltair locations will donated 10 cents per gallon of every Jet A retail fuel sale to the cause. The corporation than presented the $8000 donation to Racing for Cancer ambassador and Indy 500 winner, Gil deFerran, at its annual Wings Wheels Water event on November 1, 2017 at the Sheltair FLL location.

The event kicked off the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) and featured IndyCar Racing for Cancer founder and winningest American IndyCar driver—Ryan Hunter-Reay’s
livery on display along with luxury aircraft, vehicles and watercraft. “Racing for Cancer is an exceptional cause,” said Karen Kroeppel, director of sales and marketing for Sheltair. “We were thrilled to work together as a network and with our pilot customers to raise funds to assist in the fight against cancer. To then be able to host deFerran at our event along with Hunter-Reay’s car is truly special. Our hope is the additional exposure will help promote awareness for the Racing for Cancer team.”

Sheltair has hosted the annual Wings Wheels Water event for nearly 20 years, entertaining guests from around the world headed to Fort Lauderdale’s FLIBS, November 1 – 5, and welcoming residents back to South Florida for the winter season. This year’s event will also feature artwork by Martina Navratilova—one of the world’s best tennis players and coaches—who has combined her love for sport and art via a technique she calls “tennising”.

Sheltair FLL offers air traffic the closest and most convenient fly-in location for FLIBS, providing 24-hour U.S. Customs on site, access to DCA as a gateway airport, superior ground
support, first-class concierge services, rental cars, catering, an on-site duty free shop, and more.

ABOUT RACING FOR CANCER
Racing For Cancer is the non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization founded by 2012 IndyCar champion Ryan Hunter-Reay following his mother’s passing from cancer in 2009. Since 2010, we have been working towards our goal of bringing motorsports fans, teams, drivers, and sponsors together to join in the fight to beat cancer. Through various fundraising programs we provide support to help individuals, families, and children who are battling cancer. We focus our efforts on early detection and prevention because nearly one-third of all cancer is preventable. In addition, we help in the fight against childhood cancer. As of 2017, Racing for Cancer, combined with its partners, has contributed over $4 million dollars to cancer-related initiatives. Learn more at www.racingforcancer.org
